Elitza Kotzeva, PhD
I am an Associate Professor of English at the American University of Armenia and an interdisciplinary scholar of post-Soviet Eurasia. My research examines language, education, public discourse, and knowledge production in Armenia and the broader region. Drawing on rhetoric, Slavic studies, translation, and regional development, I study how institutions and public narratives shape intellectual authority, political identity, and access to opportunity.
My current research investigates the changing roles of Armenian, Russian, and English in education and knowledge production in post-Soviet Armenia. I am particularly interested in how language policy reflects geopolitical change, how English-medium education expands and distributes opportunity, and how societies negotiate Russian and Western systems of institutional and epistemic authority.
My other work examines public memory, nationalism, conflict, gender, digital media, and the politics of cultural representation across Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus. I am also an editor and literary translator committed to making locally grounded scholarship and cultural work available to wider publics.
